Welcome to the Essex Fire Department Auxiliary web connection! The department is proud to have an active Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is a group of individuals that are either a spouse or “significant other” of a current or recent firefighter.
To give you a better idea of what the Auxiliary does, below are some of the activities that the Auxiliary is involved in:
Lengthy scene support – shopping for, delivering, setting up and cleaning up food and beverage items that sustain the firefighters during a lengthy call such as a structure fire.
Providing refreshments for an occasional Monday night training.
Fundraising and community support. Here’s a list of some events we’ve organized:
The role of an Auxiliary member varies depending on the amount of time they can commit. There are some members that participate in planning and executing all our events to those that help with “on scene refreshments” to those that participate in our fundraisers and community events.
The Auxiliary is not a formal group. We do not have officers – we’re just a group of individuals that want to be involved. We take turns being “chairpersons” of an event and rely on the rest of the members to help support the effort.
We like to get together once a month. Depending on what event is being planned we may meet more often or just before the event is scheduled. Most meetings are held at the home of one of the members. The meetings are informal and casual.
